Values-based Education (VbE) is an umbrella term for a research-based influential, transformational educational philosophy and its practices, initially developed by Dr Neil Hawkes and now part of a global movement.
VbE gives learners an ethical compass, which nurtures their capacity for authentic self-leadership that develops life-enhancing character traits. The outcomes of VbE include: quality education, positive school culture; happy, self-led staff and children, a high level of wellbeing and resilience, which all contribute to a new story of human sustainability and flourishing.
The VbE method:
Each school setting understands the need to underpin all aspects of its culture, curriculum and life with a deep understanding of an ethical vocabulary, based on a community agreed set of positive human values, such as respect, love, tolerance, trust, justice and empathy. Such a vocabulary develops ethical intelligence, empowering learners to live their lives using a new universal narrative.
